Creative Capital Award 2026

Thrilled to announce that Sofía received a 2026 Creative Capital Award for a multimedia project written in collaboration with journalist, writer and NPR correspondent Jasmine Garsd. 

The Creative Capital Award recognizes original, ambitious project proposals for new artistic ideas, and supports the creation of risk-taking, groundbreaking new works. 

About a year ago, Jasmine was reporting on immigration raids in Nebraska in the dead of winter and stumbled upon a bar in the middle of a meat-packing town. The town was a ghost town. She sat with the owner, who shared her incredible life story, from Guatemala to Nebraska, and the story of three generations of extraordinary women who ran the place.
