Curated by the visionary composer, producer and saxophonist John Zorn, The Stone is a performance space dedicated to the experimental and avant-garde, now located at the New School Glass Box Theater. In April, Sofía Rei will present 5 different projects in a week-long residency featuring 22 incredible musicians, most of them long-time collaborators. A preview of the upcoming album “Keter” from John Zorn Masada Book 3 in duo with JC Maillard on the saz bass, with middle Eastern, flamenco, new music and South American folk influences. “El Gavilán”, Sofía’s latest award winning release reimagining the work of iconic Chilean artist Violeta Parra. “Stills, Slides & Snapshots” featuring some of the most talented vocalists in the scene in a free improv set up. Mycale, John Zorn vocal quartet a cappella celebrating 10 years of existence hailed by the NY Times as “astonishingly beautiful […] medieval and new at the same time”. And “Umbral”, Sofía’s newest project featuring her original songs and venturing in areas of the creation that arise almost exclusively from her voice. A mix of pop, South American grooves, electronic sounds and live looping.
